Basic Wheat Germ Recipe
10 lb bag of sugar ( your only going to use 7lbs)
1 - 11oz jar of Kretschmer wheat Germ (red or Blue label). This is found in the cereal aisle of your grocery store, usually top shelf and usually near the Oatmeal. I have also seen Wheat Germ in Bulk in Health Food Stores and this will do fine also.
2 packs of Active Dry NOT Rapid Rise bread yeast. If you are a home brewer or wine maker use whatever favorite yeast you have around. I have grown fond of some of the Safale
Yeasts as well as Red Star and the ever popular EC-1118.
I love this recipe. The active ferment smells strong of sweet pears and triple distilled it is almost Single malt smooth. It also ferments very fast and usually does not require nutrients.
Note: If you use this recipe DO NOT USE AN AIRLOCK. The ferment is violent enough to put it in your ceiling.
